Holy Cow, High Water Alert

FLORENCE, Ore. -- Sudden danger-whistles are rocking the Oregon coast for what’s been called a “Tsunami” approaching here by 7 a.m. Emergency officials say this is “not a drill,” and all coastal residents along the Oregon coast and Pacific Northwest are being urged to leave low-lying areas due to the massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Japan today and has triggered Tsunami warnings for America’s West coast.

Wow, thats what it felt like this morning at 300am. Steven woke me up to let me share in the adventure of hearing the sirens and learning from the news on the local station that it was real, and to proceed accordingly. So we got up, got dressed for the day, and then we checked out our Emergency packs, we have three so far, and packed some clothes and put it all in the car. Then we sat and watched FOX NEWS station to see the devastation to Japan and wonder what it would mean to us when it got here. We called to make sure GM Ida was out of her house, she was in the red zone, the rest of us were not. She was at Harry's house, Sue was watching it all at her house with her cats, and Steven went about seeing if he was going to work. I guess as soon as the alarms went off, his "crew"(mostly the boys from Mexico) headed to Eugene!!! AHHH, so not enough men to work, yet another day off for Steve. I came to work at regular time and by 11:15, they had rang the "all's clear" song. It was quite a wake up call, we know we can be ready in a hurry and we know where we need to tweak our supplies. (We have enough flashlights for the whole neighborhood!!)
So we are back to business as usual, lunch at the Bell with Steven and Luell and we chatted with Brother Hicks and Bonnie and Ken Coombs all about the events of the day. It was a fitting middle of the day on a long morning of wows!! We are thankful for the something that didnt happen here, and grateful for all the preparation that went into making sure that we are safe for when it does happen.
